Among the first of all the trees
Was the one that witnessed Eve
Pluck its fruit and take a bite,
Hoping for some special light.
Her foolish husband joined right in
And both became aware of sin.
Because they didn’t God obey
Choosing rather their own way
Life got hard; there was a curse,
But with a promise of reverse.
Many years and many trees
Came and went o’er centuries;
Waiting with all of the earth
For the Promised Savior’s birth.
A nameless tree had been condemned
To make a trough in Bethlehem.
The manger there among the beasts
Served to hold a King and Priest.
Unexpectedly a child
Born to a woman young and mild.
The manger witnessed Heaven come
To earth. God’s one and only Son.
Another tree that had no name
Held the One who bore the shame
Of everyone He came to save,
Before he went into the grave.
This tree felt the bloody hands
And back; the payment law demands.
It saw surrender, and much pain -
That which gave the sinners gain.
In three days a garden tree
Saw the stone triumphantly
Roll away when Jesus rose
Victorious over all His foes.
Yet another tree awaits
Inside of Paradise’s gates.
The Tree of Life near Jesus’ throne
Surrounded by all of His own -
Those who placed their faith in Him,
Humbly sorry for their sins.
This year may each Christmas tree
Remind you of “Mankind redeemed,”
The story that trees saw unfold
That ends with glories yet untold.
